IS THERE ANY STUDENT DISCOUNT FOR THE RAINBOW MOUNTAIN TOURS?
Regrettably, a discounted rate for students is not available for our Rainbow Mountain day excursion
WHAT FACTORS CONTRIBUTE TO THE HIGHER PRICING OF YOUR SERVICES COMPARED TO OTHER TRAVEL AGENCIES?
Certainly, a Rainbow Mountain excursion is available at a more affordable rate when purchased from street vendors. It’s noteworthy that these guides are often students in the process of learning the ropes, resulting in reduced fees. Moreover, amenities such as oxygen may not be provided in such packages.

It is not obligatory to carry your Passport; however, if you wish to receive a stamp, it is advisable to bring it along. The issuance of a stamp on your Passport incurs a fee of 5 soles.

Certainly, it is not advisable since our Rainbow Mountain excursions typically depart from Cusco. However, if you opt to stay in the Sacred Valley, we can arrange private transportation for you. Please note that there will be an additional charge of $30 for the upgraded transport from the Sacred Valley.

Aditional Informations
Things to Know
Visiting Rainbow Mountain is an incredible adventure, but there are a few important things you should keep in mind before going.
- This hike is not recommended for people with heart conditions, serious medical issues, or pregnant travelers.
- It also isn’t suitable for those over 60 years old.
- Children are welcome, but the minimum age is 8 years old.
- Since the trail operates in all weather conditions, you’ll need to dress appropriately and be prepared for sudden changes.
- At over 5,000 meters, temperatures can drop close to freezing—so pack warm clothes.
- Try to reach the top viewpoint. From there, you’ll be rewarded with a stunning 360° panorama that includes Rainbow Mountain, a nearby glacier, and a breathtaking valley. Many visitors stop halfway and miss out on this incredible view
- The hike itself is demanding. Changing weather and altitude make it challenging, but with the right pace, it’s achievable even if you’re not an experienced hiker.
- Avoid going in the afternoon during the rainy season, when lightning strikes are more common due to the high mineral concentration in the area.
- In Cusco’s Plaza de Armas you’ll find agencies offering this tour for very cheap, but keep in mind that low prices usually mean large groups (25–35 people per guide). Our service focuses on small groups of 2–8 travelers for a more personalized experience.
- And don’t forget—at the end of your trek, you can get a special passport stamp at Rainbow Mountain for just 2 soles.
Our Recommendations
- Acclimatize in Cusco before hiking. Spending at least two days there helps your body adjust to the altitude.
- Stay hydrated. Bring at least 2 liters of water per person and keep an extra bottle in the van for when you finish.
- Get a good night’s sleep before the trek. Avoid drinking or partying since pickup is around 3:00 am. A fresh start will make the hike much easier.
- Take it slow: A steady pace is the best way to prevent altitude sickness.
- Rest when needed: Listen to your body—if you feel tired or dizzy, take a break.
- Plan your itinerary with Rainbow Mountain last, after exploring Cusco, the Sacred Valley, and Machu Picchu.
- If needed, you can take altitude medication such as Diamox (only if you’re not allergic).
Solo Traveler
We are happy to welcome solo travelers on our Rainbow Mountain afternoon tour. However, before booking, please send us a message via WhatsApp or email. This is because we require at least two participants to start a group. Once you contact us, we will inform you if there is an existing group you can join. Please note that there are fewer visitors to Rainbow Mountain in the afternoon, so we may not have a group every day, even though our website shows daily availability.
Cost for Photos
Once you arrive at Rainbow Mountain, you will see locals dressed in traditional clothing with their llamas and alpacas. They often offer tourists the opportunity to take photos with alpacas adorned in sunglasses and colorful outfits. There is no fixed price; they usually ask for a tip, with the average being around 5 soles (approximately $2).
Local Culture
Driving on the last stretch of the road and hiking to Rainbow Mountain, you will likely see local people wearing their traditional Andean clothing. They wear these clothes every day, not as a tourist attraction, but as a living expression of their cultural heritage.
Animals
Rainbow Mountain is a great place for unique photos. Locals sometimes bring their llamas and alpacas decorated with colorful ribbons and even sunglasses—adding a playful touch to your pictures.
Dress in Layers
The weather here is highly unpredictable—it can go from sunny to windy and freezing in minutes. Dressing in layers is the best strategy: warm clothes for the cold, lighter ones for when the sun comes out.
Respect the Environment in Rainbow Mountain, Peru
Rainbow Mountain is a fragile ecosystem. To help preserve it:
- Stay on marked trails.
- Don’t leave trash behind.
- Avoid disturbing the wildlife.
By traveling responsibly, we ensure that this stunning place remains just as beautiful for future generations.
Group Tours
In group tours, expect people to move at different speeds. Usually, everyone stays together for the first flat sections, but in the final steep part groups tend to spread out. Faster hikers should wait at the summit for the rest so the guide can explain everything.
Strikes and Demonstrations
In case of a strike that blocks the roads, we’ll monitor the situation. If travel isn’t possible, your Rainbow Mountain tour will be canceled and refunded—your safety comes first.
Cancellations and Refunds
- Full Refund: Cancel up to 24 hours before and receive a refund (minus credit card fees).
