FAQ’s
1.- WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO TRAVEL TO PERU?
The Peruvian Winter (May to October) is the driest season and consequently the best time of year to travel to Peru, especially if you are planning to visit the Cusco area or trek the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. The summer (December to March) is the wettest season, with frequent heavy showers. The temperatures are higher than in summer, but the nights could get very cold. In April and October the weather can be unpredictable with varying conditions much like the UK. If you want detailed information, just send us a message.
2.- ALTITUDE SICKNESS
Most of our treks take place anywhere from 9,000 feet up to 16,500 feet. to prevent altitude sickness we really recommend you to get Cusco at least 3 days prior to your trek to get used to the altitude. Drink plenty of water or coca tea while staying in high altitude. Local people has been using coca tea since ancient times to help with altitude sickness. coca leaves have alkaloids which make your blood circulate quick so your blood takes oxygen to your brain. Your doctor may prescribe you medicines, such as: acetazolamide and dexamethasone to prevent altitude sickness. Start taking those 2 days prior to your trek. Continue taking them while you are at high elevation.
3.- WEATHER
Cusco is located in the andes. Weather in the Andes can be unpredictable changing from hot and sunny to rain, wind and cold. we have just two seasons such as: dry season and rainy season. dry season starts from May to october and rainy season starts from October to April. However this days the weather has been very unpredictable thanks to the global warming. Hikers should be prepared.
4.- FOOD
AB Expeditions takes pride in preparing many types of Peruvian food during your trek and you are not going be hungry. If you have any allergy to any food or you are vegetarian you have to notify us of your request at the time of booking. It is not going be a problem for our professional chef to prepare any dietary needs.
5.- GROUP SIZES
AB Expeditions groups depart with a minimum of 2 guests and maximum 10 guests. For groups of over 7 people we provide an assistant guide to help out. However if you are more than 10 people (large group trips available) we accommodate you.
6.- SOLO TRAVELER
If you are solo traveler not worries, we are happy to accommodate you. Even though you can start the trekking alone, once you finish the trekking you will meet new people and make pals with them for life. You will share the tent with other group members of the same gender. if you want to sleep alone you can rent a single tent from us for an extra $25.
7.- AUSANGATE ACCOMMODATIONS
Three-person tents are provided for two guests in multi-day trek. We usually spend the night in remote villages.
8.- TIPPING
AB Expeditions guides and staff are paid, based on the number of days they spend in the trail. While Gratitude is not required but if you feel your guide make special your trip, it is greatly rewarded.
9.- STUDENT DISCOUNT
If you are student, AB Expeditions provides you student discount of $20 with a valid ISIC card. Please notify us of your request at the time of booking that you have ISIC card and send us a picture of this card. Remember University cards are not accepted.
10.- FIRST AID
Trekking in high altitude would be a bit dangerous that s why our guide always brings proper frist aid kid along with oxigen.
11.- WHAT HAPPENS IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY?
AB Expeditions prides itself on being prepared for any emergency situation. Our guides are trained in first aid and can deal with most of the basic ailments that occur during your trek. But if a serious emergency happens, then outside help is needed. Every client should have their own insurance before coming to Peru.

All of our guides have spent years exploring the mountains and studied in Universities of Cusco. All guides speak fluent English and have a great knowledge of the various trekking routes.
